For many years between Ewell Court House and the lake there were about five, huge, very old trees(perhaps elms). When I was a youngster in the 40's it was accepted myth that during the Napoleonic Wars prisoners were chained to these. No-one said how or why but does anyone know whether there is anything in the story?
