The name Northcroft was is use for that area in the 1400's. There was previously a Northcroft Lane. Lime-croft close could have been named after a large field called Lymecroft which is now The Headway in Ewell Village. Belfield road got its name from the fact that the field on which it was built was owned by a Mrs Bell. There were houses on the 1899 O.S. map which no doubt gave their names to the new roads, i.e. Lansdowne, Sunnymede, Danetree, Oakhurst, Meadowview. Danetree Cottage was named after the Roman name for Daventry, where the owner was born.(this info to be checked) Shawford after owner of land in 12th Century, also Manor House was nearby in 1500's (Ewell Book), Gadesden Road after Mr Gadeston a local land owner. Nightingale Drive, Nightingales used to keep villagers awake. Bridges Rd (now Crosslands) after the Bridges family who owned the mills and lived at Ewell Court House). Holman Rd, Millais Way and possibly Huntsmoor Rd after the Pre-Raphaelite artists.
